NORTH VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – Outdoor enthusiasts and backcountry skiers just aren’t getting the message.
North Shore Rescue is again asking people to stay out of the bush after picking up to two stranded hikers yesterday near Indian Arm.
The team’s Tim Jones says there are dozens of people making their way up the Grouse Grind, despite the warning signs and closed gates.
“People need to understand that it’s a direct hazard to them and it’s going to increase… especially Sunday and Monday are going to be periods of very high avalanche hazard above and below the treeline,” he explains.
“On a personal note, I responded to that Grouse Grind avalanche back in 1999. It was not a pretty sight. Just because you’re close to the tram and civilization doesn’t mean you’re immune to getting hit by an avalanche in that area.”
