VANTAA, FI (NEWS1130) – West Vancouver’s Griffin Reinhart scored for Canada in a 2-1 loss to Finland in the first of two World Junior Hockey Championship warm-up games.

Canada ran into penalty trouble, taking 10 minor penalties in the game. Finland scored twice on 5-on-3 powerplays.

“I think the challenge for us obviously is coming together as a team,” said Canadian coach Steve Spott after the Canadians were outshot 22-15 by Finland which scored the winner 7:16 into the third period.

Winnipeg Jets draft pick Mark Sheifele scored the other goal for Canada, which was set up nicely by Burnaby’s Ryan Nugent-Hopkins of the Edmonton Oilers.  Number-one goaltender Malcolm Subban of the Belleville Bulls did not have a great night in goal, stopping just 19 shots.

Canada also lost forward Brett Ritchie to an upper-body injury after he collided with a Finnish player in the second period. Canada will play Sweden Saturday at 6:30 a.m.Vancouver time on Saturday, before travelling to Ufa, Russia for the World Junior Hockey Championship.
