REVELSTOKE (NEWS1130) – For the second time in less than a week, crews have had to rescue people who went out of bounds in a ski area in BC. The group of four was picked up this morning.
In this latest case, a father and his three sons, aged 17, 15 and 11, became lost yesterday after leaving the marked ski area of the Revelstoke Mountain Resort.
“It was reported they were uninjured, a little cold and they were provided with supplies to keep them through the night…including a cellphone,” says RCMP Corporal Dan Moskaluk.
He says a search and rescue helicopter found the group yesterday but was not able to get them out because of the weather and the approaching darkness. The group was forced to spend the night on the mountain until rescuers were able to return.
“If you are going into the backcountry, be equipped to do so; but if you are skiing in a resort and you are only preparing to skiing or a day trip… it is very wise to stay within the controlled boundary areas,” warns Moskaluk.
On Tuesday, a snowboarder was rescued from after being stranded for two days; he went out of bounds at Cypress Mountain.

Dad should be charged with reckless endangerment of a child X 3. What an idiot!
this will be the same father that teaches his kids to drive, financial decisions, the do’s and dont’s in life and so on……Nice work dad…..special tie for you on the next Fathers Day…
Thankfully Father and Sons were returned safely to their family. Now….a hefty fine and reimbursement of Rescue Fees are definitely in order. This foolishness is getting totally out of control, where and when will the Ramboesque stupidty end ! ! !
This nonsense, compounded every season, rally has to stop – make the lost people pay at least a portion of the cost of finding them…They are losers anyway. What kind a father puts his sons at such risk?
Where do I send the “Father of the Year” award?
When i was a teen in the early 70′s, many ski runs did not seem to have defined boundaries, (interior BC). The expression “out of bounds” had not yet been established into skiing. Yet there was nothing like the problems we see now. It was common sense, that to take a backcountry type route, you would be in a group of excellent skiers, who all knew the geography. Now it’s all serious and well defined which is the way it should be, however, there are far more problems now instead of less?? Is it that people without an adequate skill level, without preparation, are more willing to abandon common sense thinking, because they know the rescue services are much better??
These are preventable situations and if people make these bad choices they will have to pay for rescue. This is becoming very common place and others are risking their lives to save these irrespsonsible people. The resucers are volunteering their time and taking time away from their own families to locate these stranded individuals and this is just sad.
A father taking his kids out of bounds is the height of stupidity!
Right on dad! Taking your kids out of bounds! Smooth move idiot. You deserve to get lost.
