ABBOTSFORD (NEWS1130) – Students at the University of the Fraser Valley got a bit of a shock when they heard gunfire at a nearby building as they sat down to write their exams last week.
The shots came from the nearby RCMP Pacific Region Training Centre, which Mounties use for shooting practice. The gunfire wasn’t exactly helpful for concentrating.
Michel Legault is the training centre’s superintendent; he tells us they’ve done their best to accomodate students this week.
“Through the exam period, we were quite aware that there would be some challenges. We were able to modify our schedule for Monday because there was a large contingent of exams happening on Monday… But it’s also a challenge from our side; we want to make sure we continue on with our training”
Legault tells us there are plans for a new indoor training centre, which will hopefully be built by the time the RCMP’s lease with UFV expires in 2016.
However, whether the new centre is built depends on federal funding.
