SPRINGFIELD, MA (NEWS1130) – Quintin Laing of the Abbotsford Heat have been selected as one of the playing captains for the 2013 AHL All-Star Classic, which will be held January 27-28 in Providence, Rhode Island.
In his 13th professional season, Laing has appeared in 650 career AHL games with three teams. The Detroit Red Wings’ draft pick (1997) has 95 goals and 167 assists and was part of a Calder Cup winner while playing with the Hershey Bears in 2009.
Laing and the Heat are on the road tonight at the Grand Rapids Griffins, the farm team of the Detroit Red Wings (4 p.m.) and continue their road trip at the Chicago Blackhawks’ Rockford Ice Hogs affiliate on Saturday (5:05 p.m.)
The Griffins lead the Midwest Division with 28 points, but have been shutout in each of their last two games. The IceHogs are winless in their last four games, but hold down the final playoff position in the Western Conference.
