WASHINGTON, DC (NEWS1130) – The National Rifle Association has broken its silence one week after the Newtown massacre.
Executive VP Wayne LaPierre is blaming the media for misinforming the public and making the shooting seem worse than it was. “There exists, sadly, a calloused and corrupting shadow industry that sells… violence against its own people.”
He says news reports continue to push the idea if there were a ban on assault rifles, everyone would be safe.
LaPierre has a solution that he thinks will help prevent the next killer, who he adds could be waiting in the wings, from doing any harm. “I call on Congress today to put armed police officers in every school in this nation — and to do it now.”
“The only way to stop a monster from killing our kids is to be personally involved and invested in a plan of absolute protection,” he adds.
“The only thing that stops a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun,” maintains LaPierre.
He also puts blame on video games and a “violent culture” being allowed into the homes of American families.

Very interesting spin that News 1130 puts on it. “Executive VP Wayne LaPierre is blaming the media for misinforming the public and making the shooting seem worse than it was. “There exists, sadly, a calloused and corrupting shadow industry that sells… violence against its own people.” I listened to Wayne Lapierre’s entire speech and nowhere did he say that the media is making the shooting seem worse than it was. This is a perfect example of the Leftists in the media twisting the message to suit their own agenda. Or it could be that News 1130 was just too lazy to listen to the whole speech and instead got someone to give them the highlights. Poor poor reporting.
I’ll bet none of the people here taking shots at the NRA actually listend to the whole message. Mr. LaPierre had some very interesting things to say and wants to help stop the violence and has a plan to do it. What plan does Obama have? His plan is to take guns away from legitimate owners so that only the criminals have them. Now that makes a lot of sense doesn’t it?
Big Deal seems to think it’s nice that American children were killed. He’s pretty twisted.

Gee, I thought we were supposed to be able to rely on the police for our protection. How’s that working out? The best we can hope for is for them to surround the scene and enter only when it’s safe for them to do so. All these gun control laws do is gaurantee the safety of the gunman. Obviously you can’t rely on the police so what’s the alternative? We have to be able to look after our selves. Unfortunately GUN has become a four letter word especially among the uninformed. Particularly on the left side of the political spectrum. And let us not forget that the psycho who murdered those kids did so not with an “assault” rifle but with two handguns. It’s very difficult for some people to grasp the concept of “more guns – less crime”. Ignorance is bliss. Park the emotions and deal with the issue rationally. Guns in the hands of respectable law abiding citizens is a good thing.
@LORRAINE TOMIC:
Guns DO NOT kill people, people kill people. (If the gun malfunctioned and killed somone then yes the gun killed a person/ person’s,) however it is a proven fact that a well maintained firearm rarely if ever malfunctions. With that being said, in order for a gun to fire, one has to pull the trigger in order for the round of ammunition to fire and travel through the guns barrel. If guns injure/ kill people, then I guess all the pedestrians that have been injured/ killed by a motor vehicle, I guess that it is the vehicles fault for doing this. If that is true then why is the driver being charged/ fined or being handed down jail time? Exactly, we all know the car isn’t at fault for doing this, just like the gun isn’t at fault for injuring or killing people either. Instead, it is the careless misuse of the firearms by the operator that is the problem. In addition, a recent RCMP statistic showed that out of all the firearm related incidents in Canada, only one incident involved a registered firearm, the rest were all illegal and unregistered. If you take guns away from good people, (who are the majority or firearms users,) then you are not solving the problem at all. The bad guys/ criminals will still be able to obtain firearms from underground, blackmarket sources.
In Australia, they apparently outlawed firearms and everyone had to turn them in to the police department where they were all then destroyed. After doing this, guess what happened, crime went up and so did firearms related incidents.
My main point is that, firearms are not the problem. When used properly, they are a great investment and a great piece of machinery. The problem is not with guns it is with the criminals.
The NRA’s entire leadership should be at the front of the line for mental health assessments. Seriously.
Two words: Fort Hood
There were armed guards at the Columbine High School when their massacre took place. A lot of good that did.
