Possible homicide in New Westminster

NEW WESTMINSTER (NEWS1130) – Police in New Westminster are investigating a possible homicide.
There are reports a man’s body has been found in the basement of a home on Colby Street, off North Road near Holmes Street.
There are suggestions the man may have been shot but police haven’t confirmed any details.
Sgt. Diana McDaniel says they got a 9-1-1 call just after six o’clock in the morning. “The witnesses are saying they heard a disturbance which sounded like four to five gunshots that went off in their basement suite. So, it was a main-floor tenant who was calling about these noises they heard in their basement suite.”
McDaniel says IHIT has taken over the investigation.
“Right now we’re in the midst of the investigation as far as determining the deceased persons identity and also the cause of death.”
A forensics team is also in the home trying to figure out what happened. No arrests have been made.
Police expect to be on scene for awhile.
