Giants can’t hold off Rockets in the third period

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – Kelowna broke a 3-3 tie with a power play goal, followed by a short-handed marker in the third period to beat the Giants 5-3. Langley’s Dylen McKinlay had the first and last goals for the Rockets.

The Rockets outshot Vancouver 11-4 in the final frame.

Vancouver had a huge second period, as they peppered former Giants goalie Jackson Whistle with 17 shots and scored three times on goals by Trevor Cheek, Carter Popoff and Cain Franson.

Cheek and Popoff had power play goals 1:33 apart.

Franson missed a penalty shot with two minutes left in the period. His 12th goal of the season evened the game with 5 seconds left in the middle frame.

The Giants outshot the Okanagan visitors 27-19. Tyler Fuhr was between the pipes for the G-Men.

Vancouver plays in Kamloops on Saturday night.
