ABBOTSFORD (NEWS1130) – Police are warning you to be alert after a pair of purse snatchings at gas stations in Abbotsford. The thief may also be at work in other areas in the Lower Mainland.
Two women’s purses were stolen from gas stations in Abbotsford in the span of about an hour yesterday.
“In one, the victim wasn’t aware that her purse was taken until after she had filled up her vehicle. In the second incident, a young child observed a hand reaching into the open window and remove the mother’s purse,” describes Constable Ian MacDonald.
He adds they’re comparing notes with police in other cities about the thefts.
“Based on some of the suspect’s description, we are… talking to other agencies. We feel that this is an individual who may not have just perpetrated crime in Abbotsford, but might have done similar crimes elsewhere,” says MacDonald.
Last summer, Vancouver Police dealt with several thefts at gas stations, with someone making off with wallets and cell phones from cars.

This has been going on, and being reported in the news, for months now. So don’t blame the media if you haven’t been paying attention.
My gas tank is on the driver’s side of my car and I always make sure my other doors are locked while I fill up. Doesn’t take much to do that…
Why hasn’t this been reported on our local media sites?
This info was released at 11 a.m.+ and it is now, after 6:30 p.m.
It is time for Police focus to clean up criminal element ousted
out of Jubilee park, which are now hanging around the malls
and Mill Lake area.
When this happened previously word went out to LOCK your doors!! Or keep your purse/wallet on your person when gassing up! Stop being complacent and think it will never happen to you!
I believe we should cut thieves hands off…….if there was a free , true democratic vote on every major issue, it would allow the majority to rule. Drunk drivers should be banned form driving for 10 , if they kill someone, lock them away for life.
Canada’s legal system is so weak .
Gas stations have cameras…. do we have any pictures of the incidents?
