Two suspicious fires in Surrey overnight

SURREY (NEWS1130) – An explosion and fire destroyed an outbuilding and some equipment at Fraserview Cedar Products on 144th Street and 65th Avenue.

In that fire, an outbuilding was destroyed and some equipment was damaged.

Surrey fire battalion chief Steve Zecchel says another fire at the Motel Bollywood on King George is also considered suspicious. “It’s under investigation. The RCMP are on scene. We have an inspector there now and when he’s finished he’ll turn it over the the RCMP.”

Zecchel says motel on King George was only partially damaged. “There was two units that were affected. An lower was where it started, and then an upper unit. The place is vacant at this time.”

The motel was shut down after several “chronic” bylaw infractions over the past two years.

No word yet on what caused either fire.
