Premier defends bid to host major Bollywood movie award show

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – The premier is defending a bid by the provincial government to host a major Bollywood movie awards show later this year.

Christy Clark argues that it is a strategic move as more Indians learn about BC.

The BC Liberals want Vancouver to host the 14th Annual Indian Film Academy Awards.

Toronto recently did to the the tune of about $12-million, but no one is saying what the bill would be here.

Some are wondering if it’s a plot to win the South Asian vote. Clark says it’s about expanding trade in India, and growing the BC Brand.

“The value of this is not an awards show. It’s not just the fact that a billion eyes will be trained on Vancouver and British Columbia around the world. It’s much bigger than that.”

Clark says it’s important for job creation to invest in a country with such a rapidly growing middle class.
