VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – Vancouver had a goal in each period and Roberto Luongo earned his first shutout of the season, making 24 saves as the Canucks blanked Colorado 3-0 at Rogers Arena.

White Rock’s Jason Garrison blasted a puck by Av’s goalie Semyon Varlamov seven and a half minutes into the game on a low slap shot to open the scoring. It was the defenceman’s first goal in Canucks colours.

Max Lapierre made it 2-0 late in the second period as he shot the puck low between Varlamov’s legs. It was Lapierre’s first of the campaign.

The Avalanche had a two-man advantage on the power play for almost 90 seconds late in the middle period, but did not get a shot on goal.

Zack Kassian capped the scoring with his fifth of the season on a power play eight minutes into the third period.

Luongo earned his shutout with some point blank saves which included a stop on a Matt Duchene shot handed break away early in the third period.

It was Bobby Lou’s 34th shutout as a Canuck. He now has 61 in his career.

The Chicago Blackhawks visit BC on Friday, after suffering their first blemish of the season in a 3-2 shootout loss in Minnesota.
