HELP WANTED: Washington State looking for pot consultant

By

BELLINGHAM, WA (NEWS1130) – Do you have a green thumb? How about a working knowledge of a certain leafy, green herbal substance?

Washington State is going through candidates for the job of top pot consultant as it tries to figure out how to regulate, grow, dry, test, label, and distribute its newly-legalized marijuana.

Washington’s Liquor Control Board is looking for one good person to oversee it all and, on the green streets of Vancouver, News1130 has found many who are very willing to take on the challenge, including Chris.

“I would love the job,” he tells us. “I hear that weed is really easy to grow. I mean, they call it weed for a reason; it doesn’t take a genius to grow the stuff.”

“You could throw a rock into a crowd of people and you’d hit someone who could run that program… But I don’t think I could do it. I love plants, especially bonsai — I tried a couple of times — but they keep dying on me… I dunno…” he trails off.

But not everyone is so keen on the green position.

“Not me; I wouldn’t get involved in that thing at all,” laughs Pushpa. “But I am in favour of legalizing marijuana [in BC], though. Get the revenue. Why not? If it’s there at least it will be controlled.”

Washington opened up the bidding process for the position this week, even reserving a convention hall in Tacoma for a state bidding expert to take questions about the position and hiring process.

State-licensed marijuana sales are due to begin in Washington in December.
