Monster third period lifts Lake Erie over Heat

CLEVELAND, OH (NEWS1130) – The Lake Erie Monsters broke a 1-1 tie with three goals in the final period to knock off Abbotsford 4-1 in the AHL. Heat Captain Quintin Laing scored the only goal for the visitors.
Laing’s fifth of the season opened the scoring with 14 seconds remaining in the first period.
Paul Carey’s short-handed marker in the second period evened the contest for the Avalanche farm team.
The Monsters’ Brad Malone scored the winner 45 seconds into the final period.
Gabriel Beaupre chased Abbotsford goalie Danny Taylor from the game just over two minutes later with his first goal of the season. Barry Brust was in goal for the Heat when Bill Thomas scored on the power play late in the game.
Taylor made 33 saves and Brust had seven stops as Lake Erie outshot the Fraser Valley visitors 44-24.
With the win, the Monsters are now one point better than the Heat in the North Division of the AHL
The two teams meet again Friday in Cleveland.
