Search for missing Burnaby woman resumes today

BURNABY (NEWS1130) – More than three dozen people are scouring Burnaby Mountain looking for a woman who’s been missing since mid-January.

Michael Coyle with Coquitlam Search and Rescue says the search for 66-year-old Gui Feng Tong resumes today.

“Searching in what we call a closed grid, it’s a very detailed high probability of detection way of searching and we’re researching this area because she frequented this area.”

Coyle explains how the search will be conducted. “People walk through the bush in a line,  spaced about ten meters apart, and this allows us to say that we’d be able to see any kind of sign of the person at a very high level of probability.”

He says they continue to get tips as do the RCMP, and they have chased down every lead.  “They’ve ruled out all of them.  Her family has been in this area looking and we just decided that based on the lack of other places to look and the fact the RCMP have ruled out many other tips, we’ve come back here for one last try.”

She only speaks Mandarin is known to head into the bush to pick mushrooms.

SAR have already searched for Gui Feng Tong on Burnaby Mountain near Horizon’s Restaurant.

If you have any information on her whereabouts, contact Burnaby RCMP at 604-294-7922.
