Canucks rally from two goals down to win over Oilers

EDMONTON, AB (NEWS1130) – After Roberto Luongo stopped a Taylor Hall penalty shot in overtime, Chris Tanev buried his first NHL goal with 19.3 seconds left to give the Canucks a 3-2 win over the Oilers.

Both teams exchanged chances in extra time.

Edmonton’s Taylor Hall was behind the Canuck defenders, when Daniel Sedin hooked the Oilers winger. Hall was awarded a penalty shot and tried to shoot the puck by Roberto Luongo, who stood his ground and made the save with just over two minutes to play in OT.

Tanev was the hero with a wicked wrist shot that beat Devan Dubnyk on the stick side. The defenceman was set up by a nifty passing play by the Sedin brothers.

The Canucks had tied the game with 2:17 remaining in the third period on a shot by Kevin Bieksa.

Ales Hemsky had opened the scoring late in the first period on a power play for Edmonton.

Ryan Smyth made it 2-0 for the home side on a short-handed marker, eight minutes into the second period.

Vancouver’s Jannik Hansen caught Dubnyk leaving his post and banked the puck off of the Oilers goalie to get the Canucks on the board four minutes after the Smyth goal.

The Canucks outshot the Oilers 40-25.

Vancouver moves on to Minnesota for a game on Thursday.
