Family Day holiday driving up travel costs

By

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – Are you looking to use Family Day to go somewhere warm?

At least one travel agent says you might have a tough time getting a good deal.

Many are trying to take advantage of the Family Day by getting out of town says Claire Newell with Jubilee Travel.

She says the new holiday combined with university reading break is making it tough for travellers on a budget to go to places like Mexico or the Caribbean. “People will find, if they want to get somewhere hot because the weather is so cold here, they may run into some very, very high rates.”

She says it might be worthwhile to wait until the middle portion of this month is over. “If you could avoid the middle two weeks in February, do it, because of university reading week and this  year even more so because of Family Day.”

Like Christmas and Spring Break, she says you may want to also avoid traveling in the next two weeks.
