Constable questioned at coroner’s inquest

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – A coroner’s inquest has raised a number of questions about the City of Surrey’s response to the death of an 18-year old.
Constable Albert Luk was on the hunt for a possible stolen car when his RCMP cruiser ran into Ashley Guiboche.
The soft spoken officer was questioned about why he did not use his sirens and police lights as he sped down King George Boulevard.
Luk says he did not want to alert the possible car thief. He admits he became distracted by his computer.
A jury may choose to make recommendations to prevent a similar situation from happening again.
A city engineer has been repeatedly asked during the inquest what’s been done to improve pedestrian safety near the King George SkyTrain station, an area known for jay-walking.
The jury has heard one plan fell through when council turned down a nearby development application.
