Arrest in Abbotsford homicide

ABBOTSFORD (NEWS1130) – A 40-year-old woman is dead after a late-night homicide in Abbotsford.  Police were called to a home at Cassiar Court near Sumas Way around 11 p.m.  A 40-year-old man has been arrested after the city’s first homicide of the year.

“The two were previously in a relationship.  There will be diligent work by our Major Crime investigators,” says Constable Ian MacDonald.

He says they were called by members of the victim’s family who were worried about her.  “Their gut was telling them that something wasn’t right and regrettably their gut was correct.  They did the appropriate thing by contacting police and then unfortunately at the other end of our investigation is a tragedy.”

Investigators are not saying how the woman was killed, but admit they’ve been called to the home before for minor incidents.  The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) is now taking over the case.
