VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – Family Day will be held annually in BC on the second Monday in February — and events are planned in communities across the province to kick off the first-ever celebration.
The provincial government is urging families to enjoy a “staycation” at family-focused special events, such as the gathering on the lawn of the Vancouver Art Gallery that will close Howe Street in downtown Vancouver until 11:30 tonight.
But the BC Government and Service Employees Union is using the day for protests, saying families are being squeezed financially and if the BC Liberals are truly committed to family values, they would implement a new, affordable daycare system.
