BC Review Board recommends Allan Schoenborn be transferred

COQUITLAM – The BC Review Board is recommending triple child killer Allan Schoenborn be transferred to Manitoba, which is against the wishes of the victims’ family.

The family will now ask BC’s justice minister to block the transfer.

Dave Teixeira, who speaks for the victims’ family, was stunned when Schoenborn asked to be moved to a facility in Manitoba so he can be closer to his mother.

He says Schoenborn’s ex-wife has family there, and she doesn’t want Schoenborn to be anywhere near them.

“They live minutes away from the facility he wishes to go to, and if you recall from his original trial, he had basically said his goal was to wipe out all of the Clark family. So, this makes no sense whatsoever,” he says.

Manitoba’s government has to agree to the transfer before Schoenborn is moved and Teixeira says that process can take about a year.

“We had no idea that this was even something that could have happened. We were caught quite off-guard when it was announced during the hearing that this was taking place,” Teixeira says.

Schoenborn was found not criminally responsible for killing his three kids near Merritt in 2008.

Attorney General Shirley Bond isn’t saying much about the recommendation.

“As you know, the review board just made a decision to recommend transfer this afternoon. This is the first step in a process that is set out in the Criminal Code. I am not in a position today as Attorney General to make any comment. My understanding is that now that a recommendation has been made by the Review Board, the Criminal Justice Branch will consider the recommendation and will insure that all of the considerations and requirements set out in the code are complied with,” she says.
