NEW WESTMINSTER (NEWS1130) – An off-duty Transit cop has been charged with assault causing bodily harm and assaulting a police officer.
This stems from some sort of fight outside of a bar in New West in September
Ann Drennan with Transit Police says Brian Lawson has been with the department since 2005.
“He resigned on January 25th of this year. Lawson had been on medical leave since June of 2012. After 30 days on medical leave you are transferred to something called income-continuum,” she explains.
Drennan says he was not being paid as a member when he was arrested.
“He has a court date for March 6, 2013. We know that Mr. Lawson is currently living in Ireland. If he comes back to face those charges, that’s fine…if not, I assume that there would be a warrant put out,” she says.
The incident took place on the street near 7th and 5th Ave.

Must be some sort of arrangement Translink has made; import Transit cops from Great Britain and send the tainted ones across the pond? Was the other cop off duty too? If so, this is simply a case of vengeance because he lost the fight.
