Giants try for rare back-to-back wins

PORTLAND, OR (NEWS1130) – The Vancouver Giants will look to strings wins together for the first time in three months this afternoon as they’ll face off with the WHL-leading Portland Winterhawks.

The Giants won for just the second time in seven games yesterday, beating the Seattle Thunderbirds 3-2. Their task gets much tougher today, as they prepare to meet a Portland team which they’ve had no success against this year.

This will be the fourth meeting of the season between the clubs, with the Winterhawks having won the previous three by a combined score of 20-8.

Vancouver hasn’t won back-to-back games since victories over Prince George and Regina on Nov. 11 and Nov. 16.

Portland is coming off of a 6-2 loss to the Tri-City Americans last night, but the Winterhawks have won eight of their past 10 games. The ‘Hawks (46-9-1) are sitting comfortably in the top spot in the standings, and their .819 winning percentage is well above the next best team in the league, the Edmonton Oil Kings (.750)

Vancouver is struggling through one of the worst seasons in franchise history. The Giants (15-43-0) are dead last in the WHL, and trail the closest team, Seattle, by 15 points.

Puck drop is at 3 p.m.
