Luongo looks to stay hot with visit from Blues

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – The Vancouver Canucks will try to begin a new winning streak tonight as they host the St. Louis Blues, and Roberto Luongo will be back in net, looking to win his fifth straight start.

The Canucks dropped a 4-3 decision to the Dallas Stars on Friday evening with Cory Schneider in net, which snapped a six-game winning streak.

Luongo has been terrific so far this season. He leads the NHL with a goals against average of 1.45, while his .943 save percentage is second to only Ottawa’s Craig Anderson. During his four-game winning streak, Luongo has allowed just four goals.

The Blues will also have a streaking goalie in net as Jake Allen will make his third straight start and third start of his career. The 2008 second rounder has earned wins over the Detroit Red Wings and Calgary Flames, stopping 45 of the 50 shots he faced.

This is the first meeting of the season between the teams. They’ll face each other a total of three times. They each earned a pair of wins in four contests against each other last season.

Vancouver (8-3-2) is leading the Northwest Division, sitting three points up on the Edmonton Oilers. St. Louis (8-5-1) trails league-leading Chicago by eight points in the Central Division.

Puck drop at Rogers Arena 6 p.m.
