Woman who left baby on BC Ferry causes delays

HORSESHOE BAY (NEWS1130) – One of the ferries running between Vancouver and Nanaimo is an hour behind schedule today.

A woman got left on shore while her baby was on board.

The young mom was on the 8:30 a.m. Queen of Cowichan when she realized some of her coolers didn’t make it on board.

Deb Marshall with BC Ferries says she left her young baby with a friend and ran off the ship to get them.

“In the meantime, they had cleared the vessel to sail. When we realize this young infant, a five-month-old, was without it’s mother, the mother was on shore… the decision was made to turn the ship around to pick up the mother.”

Everyone’s been reunited but the boat will be running late through the day. Marshall says they are looking into if there was a breakdown in communication between ship and shore.
