Suspicious man posed as Shaw Cable worker in New Westminster

NEW WESTMINSTER (NEWS1130) – Police in New Westminster are asking you to be on alert after a man posing as a worker with Shaw Cable tried to get into someone’s building.

It happened yesterday afternoon on Park Row; a man buzzed someone’s apartment, saying he needed access to the cable box to do some work.

When the man who let him in asked for ID, the supposed employee couldn’t show him any, so he asked him to leave.

Shaw Cable says there was no Shaw maintenance scheduled at that location.

“If it were a real Shaw person, they should definitely have identification, saying they are an employee. They should also have a work order. They are always provided with keys to the building, as well as their own key to the cable room,” explains Sergeant Diana McDaniel.

The suspicious man in this case is described as a white man in his 20s and about 5’10”. He had a scruffy short beard and was wearing a grey Shaw Cable jacket with a tool belt around his waist.
