BC gov't opens office in the UK

LONDON (NEWS1130)- The British Columbia government is opening a trade and investment office for Europe in London.

The BC government says the United Kingdom is Canada’s second largest trading partner and is one of the strongest markets for investment, trade and tourism for the province.

Prince Andrew, the Duke of York, along with BC’s Lt.-Gov. Judith Guichon and former BC Premier and Canadian High Commissioner Gordon Campbell all attended today’s opening event in London.

European trade and investment representative Susan Haird will lead the London office.

Haird _ whose career spanning 35 years _ was most recently the deputy chief executive of United Kingdom Trade and Investment.

Jobs, Tourism and Skills Training Minister Pat Bell says British Columbia, with its natural resources and technology industries is a natural trading and investment partner for European countries.

I’m beginning to believe that Christy Clark owes a debt of gratitude to his old master scoundrel Gordon Campbell. Perhaps Gordon paved a way for Christy to safely extricate herself from the mess on failed BC rail transaction. Christy’s brother was fully involved in a backdoor negotiation with intent to enrich themselves. In her desperate moves, Christy might be thinking she is about to be voted out of office after May, 2013, this move will hold a gesture of thanking Gordon, even if they only last a few months period. I’m pretty certain this UK office will be removed after the winning party is elected in May.
