Fraser Health detects no E-Coli in water

CHILLIWACK (NEWS1130) – If you live in Chilliwack you can rest easy, testing for the city’s water has come back with zero E-Coli detected.

Mayor Sharon Gaetz says they’ll do an investigation into why original tests showed otherwise which forced Fraser Health to add chlorine to the water supply.

“The chlorination will stay on in the system, Fraser Health will have to let us know when we can turn it off and I imagine we won’t be doing any of that until the investigation is finished,” explains Gaetz.

Upon the Fraser Health Authority notification of the positive E.coli result, city crews immediately followed procedures and retested the water.

“Today’s clear test results do not mean the prior test was incorrect,” says Glen MacPherson, Chilliwack Director of Public Works. “At this time we don’t know what caused the original test result to be positive.”

Water remains safe to drink in Chilliwack, and the Boil Water Advisory for Greendale will be cancelled.
