WestJet reducing carry-on allowance

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – You’ll want to pack a little lighter if you have a flight booked on WestJet next month or beyond.

The airline is changing your carry-on allowance.

Right now, you’re allowed two carry-on bags, plus a personal item. But starting April 4th, you will only be able to bring one carry-on, plus a personal item, like a purse or laptop.

“This baggage allowance is pretty much the world standard,” says Robert Palmer with WestJet. “So, from a guest experience perspective, it makes sense to harmonize carry-on allowance between ourselves and other airlines around the world where our guests are travelling.”

“We’ve had seven consecutive months now, of record load factors, going back to last August. Those bins are getting tight. This is an opportunity to make sure that everybody has a chance to get their stuff into the overhead bin or underneath their seat,” he adds.

Palmer adds fewer bags on board will help WestJet stay on time. He also says it will result in faster, more efficient boarding.
