Courts may review case for two men convicted of murder

SEATTLE (NEWS1130) – It was a shocking triple-killing nearly 20 years ago, but it’s still before the courts. Judges in Washington State are set to decide whether to review the case of two former West Vancouver residents.

It’s the latest legal step, but probably not the last one, for Sebastien Burns and Atif Rafay, who were convicted nine years ago in the 1994 murder of Rafay’s parents and his autistic sister in their Seattle-area home.

Each has received a 99-year life sentence without chance of parole; they’ve so far failed to overturn that decision. But the Supreme Court in Washington State is considering a review.

The case has highlighted the “Mr. Big” technique sometimes used by undercover police to draw confession.

No matter what the judges decide, it’s expected the case will continue to make its way through the American courts.
