Man shot to death at shopping centre in South Surrey

SURREY (NEWS1130) – A 28-year-old man is dead after a brazen evening shooting in South Surrey.

It happened at the busy Morgan Crossing shopping complex on 24th Avenue.

The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team has identified the victim as Craig Widdifield.

Early this morning, several police cars were at the scene with their lights flashing; a large area of the parking was still behind yellow tape.

Widdifield was shot near a white Mercedes SUV just before 7 o’clock last night. He was known to police. Investigators say he was targeted and the shooting was gang-related.

They’re also looking for a silver Volkswagen Passat they say might have something to do with the case.

There are several businesses, including a toy store, in the area; police are hoping some of those businesses may have surveillance video of the shooting.

“It’s kind of scary to know that that can happen here. It’s so busy; there are so many stores [with] lots of people coming in and out,” says one person who shops in the area.

Investigators are expected to release more information this afternoon.
