Man who killed wife in front of her kids gets life in jail

By

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – It’s life in prison with no chance of parole for 15 years for a man who killed his wife in front of her three kids in Burnaby.

It happened in September 2009.

The man, who we can’t name because of publication bans, was separated from the victim for several months.

He had apparently shown up at her home saying he was sick — but then grabbed a large knife from the kitchen and stabbed the woman repeatedly as her kids (no older than 10) watched on in horror.

He was arrested after running to a neighbour for help.

The man’s lawyers argue he suffers from a mental disorder but the judge found him guilty anyway of second degree murder. The conviction carries a mandatory sentence of life in prison. Sentencing determines parole eligibility.

Court heard the children have never fully recovered from what happened; they are now in the government’s care.
