VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – While it has lost the help of its national counterpart, Destination BC is still going to spend money to try to lure American visitors here.

The Canadian Tourism Commission made the decision a few years ago to put more focus and dollars into countries like China and Brazil.

Fewer US tourists have been coming to Canada in the last three years but Steven Pearce with Tourism Vancouver says it is still BC’s single most important international market.

“Twenty per cent of our hotel rooms are filled by Americans with domestic being about 50 per cent and the balance is all from other international markets.”

He says each province is now focusing on separate marketing to the US, getting their own brands out there instead of Canada as a whole. He adds, it’s important to collaborate as much as possible though.
