Lions try for second straight win in meeting with Eskimos


EDMONTON, AB (NEWS1130) – The BC Lions are coming off their first win of the season as they square off with the Edmonton Eskimos in the CFL’s Week 3 finale. The Leos beat Toronto 24-16 last Thursday.

The Eskimos will also try to make it back-to-back wins as they topped Hamilton 30-20 in a game that was played under torrential rain last week.

Eskimos starting quarterback Mike Reilly will meet his former team for the first time. Reilly spent 2010-2012 with the Lions before being moved to Edmonton in the off-season.

The Lions will be without receiver Shawn Gore (concussion). Veteran Paris Jackson will replace him in the starting line-up. The 32-year-old hasn’t started a game since the end of the 2011 season.

Kicker Paul McCallum (groin) will miss his third straight game. Hugh O’Neill will continue to handle all the kicking duties.

Lions running back Andrew Harris is coming off a strong effort against the Argonauts, which earned him Canadian Player of the Week honours. The Leos will hope to establish the running game again tonight, but will be in tough with linebacker JC Sherritt in the Eskimos lineup. Sherritt is the CFL’s tackles leader with 15 through two weeks.

The teams will play a rematch next Saturday at BC Place.
