Loyalty programs growing in popularity

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – Loyalty programs are becoming more and more popular with shoppers but not all are created equal

The average Canadian family is registered for 8.2 loyalty programs.

Using compareloyaltyprograms.ca, Queen’s University marketing professor Ken Wong says Air Miles comes out as one of the best. “Other programs that do well are Aeroplan, Shoppers Optimum, the most popular programs tend to do well. Certain programs, because of the variety of places where you can use them and accumulate points, they let you get to your reward a little faster.”

It depends on the frequency with which you buy them, whether they have a credit card attached to them. The selection of the right program has become a lot more complicated. It’s a little bit like trying to design a financial portfolio for somebody, it’s not going to look the same for everyone,” he adds.

He says the keys to using loyalty programs successfully is to look carefully at your shopping habits, how you pay for things and what type of rewards you want to get.
