Surrey RCMP close missing persons case 50 years later

SURREY (NEWS1130) – Against all odds, a woman who disappeared from Surrey more than 50 years ago has been found, alive.  She was tracked down in the Yukon by her daughter.

Linda Evans was just seven or eight-years-old when she last saw her mother Lucy Ann Johnson.  She decided to do a bit of detective work after a recent feature on the missing persons case in a local newspaper.

RCMP Corporal Bert Paquet says Evans took out ads in some northern newspapers and remarkably, it paid off.

“A woman from the Yukon saw in a newspaper the ad posted, and at that point in time realized the picture of the person she was watching was her mother.”

Paquet says his team was shocked by the unexpected news.

“We have a lot of investigators doing a lot of hard work to solve cases.  This is definitely a good example for young police officers never to give up; never to assume anything.”

The family is now asking for privacy as they make plans to try to reunite.
