Canucks sign Zach Hamill of Port Coquitlam

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – The Vancouver Canucks have added some depth to their roster, signing Port Coquitlam native Zach Hamill.

Hamill gets a one-year, two-way contract.

He has played for the WHL’s Everett Silvertips and was originally the eighth-overall pick in the 2007 NHL Entry Draft by Boston. Hamill has spent the last few years bouncing around the minor leagues, playing in places like Hershey, Milwaukee, and San Antonio.

He’s only played a total of 20 NHL games, all with Boston, and racked up an unimpressive four assists.

Hamill, now 24, has spent time with three different NHL teams (Boston, Washington, Florida) and is hoping that an opportunity here in Vancouver will re-ignite his pro career.

He might have a chance at landing a spot at centre and will battle Jordan Schroeder and Brendan Gaunce for the position. The most likely scenario sees Hamill starting the season in the AHL with Utica.

The Canucks have also announced they have signed 31-year-old winger Colin Stuart.
