Possible strike at YVR next month

By

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – You could run into delays flying out of YVR next month.

Hundreds of workers represented by PSAC/UCTE have voted in favour of job action. The employees handle emergency response, international arrivals customer care, passenger loading, runway maintenance and lighting, general maintenance, and administration.

Flexible shifts and protection from contracting out are two of the main issues.

“We want to negotiate, we understand there will be a deal in place, we just think this employer should pull back their roll backs and actually deal with us. This airport has been named the most efficient airport in North America which means our members are doing their jobs,” says Dave Clark, Regional Vice President of the Union of Canadian Transportation Employees.

Crews could go on strike over the Labour Day long weekend.

A strike would cause delays for travelers in and out of Vancouver International Airport.

“It has an impact on the traveling public but it also has an impact on the economy of the city where it takes place.”
