Two arrested in ‘Bait Bike’ program near Horseshoe Bay

HORSESHOE BAY (NEWS1130) – It looks like the new “Bait Bike” program works.

Two people were arrested this morning coming down from Whistler after eight stolen bikes, including one that had a GPS device, were found in their rental van.

We spoke with one man who was driving by the scene on Highway 99 near Horseshoe Bay and saw police bust the pair. “I slowed down and asked one of the 10 cops in eight cop cars there what was going on. I said ‘Did you catch a bike thief?’ He said ‘Yup!'”

A 47-year-old from Surrey and a 45-year-old from Vancouver are facing a variety of charges.

It’s believed all the bikes had been swiped over the past few weeks in Sea to Sky Country; you may want to get in touch with the Whistler RCMP if your bike was recently stolen.
