Average salary hike expected to be a bit smaller next year

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – Slightly smaller wage increases are forecast for workers in Vancouver next year.

A worldwide HR consultancy expects the average salary in Vancouver will rise 2.3 per cent next year, half a point less than this year’s gain.

The Hay Group says its projection for salary increases across the province is lower for the first time in four years at 2.3 per cent, down 0.4 per cent.

Nationwide, the projected average salary increase is 2.6 per cent, down 0.3 per cent from this year.

Hay Group’s highest predicted salary increases by sector are oil and gas (4%); Services (3.3%); and Credit Unions (3.2%).

Its lowest projections include leisure and hospitality (2.0%); retail, consumer durables, and forestry and paper (all 2.1%); the public sector (2.3%); and private sector industrial and financial at 2.7%.
