Court rules against Competition Bureau in case vs Rogers

By

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – The Competition Bureau has lost a case against Rogers Communications, which has escaped a $10-million penalty the watchdog wanted to impose.

It accused Rogers of misleading advertising about the chatr service having fewer dropped calls than its rivals.

An Ontario court rejected the argument, saying the claims were fair, accurate, and based on commonly-used testing. The case dates to 2010.

The Bureau says it is disappointed, and Commissioner of Competition John Pecman adds “we are currently considering our next steps in this matter.”

Rogers is the parent of News1130.
