VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – She’s a convicted pet killer who was the subject of a public warning in Vancouver after being released from jail.
Now the former SFU criminology student wants more freedom.
Kayla Bourque’s lawyer argues the probation order against his client goes too far in favour of protecting others and makes it hard to rehabilitate her.
The young woman is under close to four dozen restrictions in what a judge has called one of the most comprehensive probation orders he’s given.
Crown says Bourque continues to want to hurt or kill pets and people, and is fascinated with blood.
Psychologists worry about her lack of remorse, and one doctor feels she needs supervision for the rest of her life.
BC Court of Appeal has reserved its decision on Bourque’s request until later.
Bourque was convicted last year of several counts, including causing unnecessary pain and suffering to animals.
After she was released from custody, BC Corrections issues a public warning.
