ABBOTSFORD (NEWS1130) – A program in Abbotsford that lets you report non-emergency problems to police via text message is a big success just a few months after its launch.
It’s doing lot better than an online reporting program introduced a year ago.
“We do get maybe a handful of those reports on a monthly basis,” explains Constable Ian MacDonald.
“But from the text contact standpoint, we get several text contacts in a day.”
Not every contact is legitimate; there have been some pranksters too.
“An individual from Toronto [requested] that we bring beer,” MacDonald.
“The answer to the question is no, we didn’t transport any beer to Toronto!”
If you do have a problem and you’re in Abbotsford, you can text police using the code 222973.
