Red Robinson Show Theatre to be rebranded

COQUITLAM (NEWS1130) – He is a radio legend with no shortage of awards of accolades, but Red Robinson will soon have one less claim to fame.  The local theatre that bears his name is about to be rebranded.

Coquitlam’s Boulevard Casino will soon be known as the Hard Rock Casino Vancouver and that means the Red Robinson Show Theatre will be getting a new moniker too.

However, casino managers insist it has nothing to do with the Red himself.

“It’s all about the tie-in and the brand change that we’re going through as a whole property so I think the theatre was going to have the same brand change that we’re going through on the casino side,” says Executive Director Raj Mutti.

“There’s nothing against him at all.  We’re very thankful and grateful for his contribution over the years to the Boulevard property.”

For his part Robinson bears no ill will.  “Look it, there are certain things in life, if you can do something about it, you do.  But if you can’t, you go with it, you go with the flow.  This is their decision corporately and I’ll go along with it,” says the 76-year-old.

“I never asked for someone to name the theatre after me [but] it was a great honour.  They’ve changed their direction.  There’s nothing I can do about it.  Hell, we’re in radio and television, they change [names] all the time!”

Red’s last MC gig at the venue is December 13th when he will be introducing none other than Carrot Top.  “I think that’s ironic!  I think it’s funny,” he adds.

The theatre’s new name should be revealed in a week or so, according to Mutti.

The grand re-opening is set for December 20th when rockers Hedley take the stage.
