Sensible BC facing challenges in its campaign

By

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – The campaign to legalize pot in this province has to overcome a couple of logistical nightmares if its going to reach its goal.

Sensible BC has less than two months to gather another 400,000 signatures for its petition.

It’s not just the number that’s a challenge for Dana Larsen who is heading up the group.

If he’s going to force a non-binding referendum in BC or a vote in the Legislature, he’ll need the support of ten percent of eligible voters in each riding.

He says it’s not easy on his canvassers. “One very difficult bureaucratic aspect to this campaign is that there’s 85 electoral districts in British Columbia and people have to sign the right form for their district.”

He says that’s not a problem if you’re in a smaller community. “When we’re canvassing in Vancouver we need to have dozens of forms on hand and we need to be able to sort people out into what district they’re in and get them the right form as quickly and efficiently as possible.”

Perhaps that’s why the campaign has had most of its success in the Interior.
