Manitoba eyes new rules to clarify costs of cable, Internet and telephone bills

By

WINNIPEG – The Manitoba government is considering new rules to clarify the cost of cable television, telephone and Internet services.

Consumer Protection Minister Ron Lemieux says some people have complained about unclear bills, or rates that jump after a few months’ discount.

The province’s consumer protection office is launching public consultations on what new rules may be needed.

Topics include bundled pricing for multiple services and penalties for cancelling service.

The provincial government recently imposed clarity rules on cellphone providers, requiring them to clearly explain all fees and penalties up front.

The public can provide input online at www.gov.mb.ca/cca/cpo/cable_tv_public_consultation.html
