No GMO labels on food in Washington State

By

SEATTLE, WA (NEWS1130) – It looks like voters in Washington State have decided they don’t want to see labels on genetically modified food.

Early results suggest the “No” side’s expensive campaign against mandatory labelling was successful.

The no campaign raised more than $20 million. Monsanto Co., General Mills and Pepsi all made significant donations. The Yes side raised less than $8 million.

Washington State uses a vote by mail system, so it will likely be a few days before the final results are known.

Voters in California previously rejected mandatory labelling.
