Canucks hammered by Kings

LOS ANGELES, CA (NEWS1130) – The Los Angeles Kings scored three goals in a span of 2:33 in the second period, as they crushed the Vancouver Canucks 5-1. Dan Hamhuis had Vancouver’s lone goal.
Jonathan Quick had to be sharp for the Kings early, as Vancouver played a strong opening 10 minutes. Quick made a pair of big stops off Daniel Sedin and Ryan Kesler just a couple minutes before Jordan Nolan opened the scoring on a wrist shot from the slot.
Los Angeles extended its lead in the final minute of the first. A centering pass hit Tyler Toffoli’s skate and slid in, but it was not a kicking motion, so it counted as a goal.
Vancouver thought it had gotten on the board early in the second, when Alex Burrows beat Quick, but the referee quickly waved the goal off as Burrows kicked it in.
A few minutes later, the Canucks did break Quick’s shutout bid. Hamhuis wired a slapshot home with Daniel Sedin providing a terrific screen in front.
The Kings quickly took over the game after the Hamhuis tally. Mike Richards responded a little over a minute later to restore the two-goal lead.
A minute and 46 seconds after the Richards goal, Justin Williams chased Roberto Luongo from the Canucks’ crease, as he beat him to make it 4-1. Luongo made 14 stops on 18 shots before exiting.
Eddie Lack didn’t fare much better, as Toffoli potted his second goal of the night on the first shot Lack faced, which came on a two-on-one break for Los Angeles.
Lack finished the night strong, stopping the final 13 shots he faced.
The loss dropped the Canucks record to 1-1-1 on their road trip. They wrap-up the trip on Sunday against the Anaheim Ducks.
