IHIT investigating death of a man in Surrey

SURREY (NEWS1130) – Surrey has recorded its 23rd murder of the year.

The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team confirms one man has died and another is in hospital after a fight broke out at a home at 91st Avenue and 147-a Street early Saturday morning.

Sgt. Jennifer Pound says the death does not look like it was targeted. “Not at this stage. It really is too early. It’s going to take two days to process this scene, we’ll be here for the next 48 hours, at least.”

Pound says no guns were used in the brawl. “We really don’t know if other weapons or if any weapons were used at all, or if this was an assault. It’s something that we’re going to still have to process and speak with witnesses and determine exactly what happened.”

This comes just days after Surrey Mayor Dianne Watts announced the creation of a task force, following the city’s 22nd homicide of 2013, what was then a new record.
