TORONTO (NEWS1130) – Team Canada has announced its 25-man roster for the Sochi Olympics, and it includes two Vancouver Canucks.

Roberto Luongo, who was in net for the completion of the 2010 tournament, could get another chance next month, as he’s back on the roster following tumultuous times.

Defenseman Dan Hamhuis has also been named to Team Canada, which is built around key contributors from the team that won gold four years ago in Vancouver.

Sidney Crosby, who scored the game-winning goal over the US in overtime, is back and likely will be named captain.

Jonathan Toews, Ryan Getzlaf, Corey Perry and Patrice Bergeron are also among the 2010 medallists named to the team.

John Tavares and Carey Price lead the group of newcomers, which also includes the injured Steven Stamkos, who is already skating and would like to return from a broken leg before the start of the Olympics.

Canada beat the United States in overtime to win the gold medal in 2010 when Crosby beat Ryan Miller.

Any surprises with the roster?

Rick Dhaliwal in the News1130 Sports Centre says the selection of Victoria’s Jamie Benn caught some people off-guard.

“He wasn’t at the evaluation camp in the summer but he had a strong start to the season. He was just playing so well they couldn’t keep him off the roster. That’s a huge jump from where he was last summer.”

And there were some omissions of note.

“There are two guys everyone is talking about right now,” explains Dhaliwal.

“Claude Giroux from the Philadelphia Flyers and and Martin St. Louis from Tampa Bay are both having outstanding seasons and they were left off this roster. Giroux had a very slow start, his Flyers had a slow start, but he’s picked it up in the last month and a half. Those are the two names right now that everybody’s talking about who didn’t make the club,” he says.
